A hand when you need one

Let’s get you back to the table.

Answers about starting a game, playing a card, joining friends and saving your progress.

Getting started

Do I need an account to play?

You can play without an account. Start playing now, or create an account when you want to save your progress. An account lets you save eligible future results and keep your player profile, tokens and unlocked styles. Earlier guest rounds are not added to a new account.

Which mode should I choose?

Choose Solo to face 1–3 computer opponents. Choose Pass & Play for 2–8 people sharing one device, or Play Online for 2–8 people on separate devices.

Do I need to download an app?

You can play the current web game directly at afroeights.com/game. This website does not require an app-store download to get started.

Playing a round

Why won’t my card play?

Check the active suit, the top card’s rank, whose turn it is and whether a pickup is pending. After a normal draw, only the newly drawn card can be played that turn. The game explains an invalid move even when hints are off.

What happens after I draw?

For a normal draw, play the newly drawn card if it is legal, or select Keep & end turn. A penalty pickup is different: you take the required number of cards and your turn ends.

Can an Eight cancel a pickup?

No. An Eight changes the active suit on an ordinary turn. Use an Ace to cancel a pickup, or a legal Two or Joker to stack when the table allows stacking.

Why did I draw a card after playing my last one?

With the default finish rule, you cannot finish on A, 2, 7, 8, Jack, King or Joker. Playing one as your last card draws a replacement. Keep a legal 3, 4, 5, 6, 9, 10 or Queen to finish.

Can I make cards larger or slow things down?

Yes. Open the table menu for larger cards, playable-card hints, reduced motion, game speed and hand sorting. Larger cards or crowded tables may need scrolling.

Does opening the menu pause an online game?

Local Pause stops new local actions. The online Menu does not pause the server round, so the other players can continue.

Online rooms

How do I play with friends?

Open Play Online, create a room and share its invite link or code. Friends choose Join and use the code, or open the invite link. The host starts when at least two players are connected.

What happens if someone disconnects?

A disconnected or departing player has 90 seconds to return. If that period expires during an unfinished round, the round ends unranked without a winner. The host can bring the remaining players back to the room and start again with at least two players.

Can I return after refreshing?

The game can resume a saved online session after a refresh. If you explicitly leave, it will not silently rejoin on the next load. Use Return to table while the return period is still open.

Your player account

How do I create an account?

Go to Create an account and enter a username and email address. Follow the link sent by email to choose your password, then sign in before playing rounds you want saved.

I forgot my password. What should I do?

Use Reset password with your username or email address. Follow the instructions in the password-reset email.

Why didn’t my result change my ranking?

Pass & Play, guided practice and unfinished rounds ended after a disconnect are unranked. Guest rounds do not save to an account. For an eligible signed-in round, check the result’s save status and use Retry if it reports a failed save.

What is Net Score?

Net Score is 3 × approved wins − approved losses. It is separate from card points, which total the value left in opponents’ hands in rounds you win. See your account or the rankings.

How do I change my cards or table style?

Open the Shop from the game. Select a style to preview it. If it is locked, the game shows the token cost. Unlocking and equipping are separate actions; choose Equip when you want to use an owned style.
